Eric's Top 10 Greatest albums of all time v22310

In my mind I'm sort of always compiling a list of the best albums of all time. I think I was hardwired to do this, being raised on a steady diet of Led Zeppelin, 80's synth-pop and Joni Mitchell. Don't question me. Criteria? Well, I have to really like it - which has its own evolving set of criteria. But, the most important point is that the entire album has to hang together - there can never be a moment in my life where I have thought: "Man, I love this album except for THAT song." Perhaps not surprisingly, all of these albums are in heavy rotation in my life and all were soundtracks for one or more defining periods in my life. Cause that's just how it is.

    Latest List - Top 10

    1. Led Zeppelin - IV
    2. Royksopp - Melody A.M.
    3. Zero 7 - Simple Things
    4. Fugazi - In on the Kill Taker
    5. Beck - Mutations
    6. Belle & Sebastian - Tigermilk
    7. Atmosphere - Lucy Ford EP
    8. Nirvana - Unplugged in New York
    9. Nick Drake - Bryter Layter
    10. R.E.M. - Document

What's your list? I should say that Beck's newest, Modern Guilt, is rapidly catching up to Mutations. Also, there are so many great bands that I had to leave off the list because their albums have too many songs I like to skip. Them's the breaks, kids.

Oh man...this was a lot easier 10 years ago. I'm having a musical identity crisis (again) so I don't know how accurate this list is going to be, and it's definitely not in order, but I'll try it. (BTW, I nearly had an aneurysm from seeing Zero 7 followed by Fugazi.Warn us next time you do that.)

    1. Starflyer 59-Silver
    2. Download-III
    3. U2-Achtung, Baby/The Joshua Tree/The Unforgettable Fire
    4. Soundgarden-Superunknown
    5. Clutch-The Elephant Riders
    6. DJ Shadow-Endtroducing
    7. Massive Attack-Mezzanine
    8. The Twilight Singers-Blackberry Belle
    9. Kruder & Dorfmeister-DJ Kicks
    10. Stavesacre-Speakeasy

A couple there I don't know! DJ Kicks is a great album - good call. Haha re: aneurysm -- I did NOT have one in writing it. My 11-20 would probably make your head truly 'asplode.

OK, having Nick Drake on the Top 10 list is a big deal. Cause as you said, every song is perfect, and simply you can't push NEXT TRACK button. That album is perfect balance between one human being and life itself.
Nirvana is in some point something different, but in other way perfect too. Some other side of Nirvana is shown here, dark and shiny. And so on.
Can I notice that your choice of albums based on a good deal of quite similar type of music. What would I do it before calling a list of current mood. Yes, that will most likely always come back because they are always there for you to understand. But again, yes, you said that it was Eric's Top 10 List. :-) And that there are many albums that there could be included. Therefore, this is it. Nice selection, really. There are a few that I put forward the best album, definitely. And most of all, I impressed that you mentioned, the best albums of that because every song great, without a single that is not good. Respect. N.
